CMS Training: Content Types

Transcript

On every post, you have the option to either upload a file, share a web link, or write free text.

Please note that you can only do one of these three things. You can’t have free text, a link, and, say, an uploaded PDF. If you have a complex message that includes links, text, and images, we recommend an interactive document. Or if you need to add some context to an uploaded video, you can use the caption field.

Let’s go through each content type in more detail.

Uploading Content

The upload field allows you to upload a file directly from your computer. All the supported file types are listed here for easy reference and they include PDFs, Word Docs, Powerpoint, Excel Docs, Videos, audio files, and images.

You’ll select whatever file you want from your computer—in this case we’re using a PDF—and you’ll see the preview icon in blue as well as a full load bar below when it has uploaded successfully. This also allows you to preview the content you’ve uploaded so you can double check that you’ve selected the correct content.

Web Links

The second type of content is web links.

These are exactly what they sound like—you can share links to any site. You can also set it to “mail to” whcih allows users to click and open their email client or “tel” which automatically opens their telephone dialer with that number pre dialed.

Clients will frequently use web links to share links to systems teams will need to access regularly.

Free Text

The last type of supported content is free text.

Free text is great for copy and pasting messages or for quick or short messages you’d like to share. But your formatting options are limited. If branding is important to you, it is best to upload a designed document.

If you do want to copy and paste a message here, this free text box does work hard to hold onto the original formatting of the message you’ve copied. It will support images, links, and text.

In the next video, we’ll cover the options you have on each post.
